Television and Home Theater

Well, stop me if you've heard this one before... last weekend I noticed that the timer light on my four year old Mitsu 65 incher was blinking and the TV wouldn't power on. The reset switch didn't fix the problem and a quick look at Google led me here. If someone could fill me in on the repair procedure, it would be most appreciated.

I have a Sharp lc 45d40u Lcd tv. I wish to connect my PC, an Amd 4200+ with nvidea 7950gt video card to the TV. I purchased a HDMI to DVI cable 10.5 ft. my question is will I have signal degradation(picture quality loss) due to the conversion of the DVI to HDMI? will this connection give me the best possible picture I can attain with this equipment? Unfortunately the TV doesn't have a DVI input only HDMI and a S-video inputs

 I have a 50" mitsubishi vs-45605 that just clicks on then immediatley clicks off. Is it worth repairing or am I better off buying a new set. I have a question about LCD or Plasma which one will last longer? From the little I have read LCD seems the better choice. Just wondering your thoughts and what brand you would recommend?
