Television and Home Theater

There is a consistent flicker in the picture on my Mitsubishi DLP TV. When I pause a DVD, it is the most noticeable with the picture flashing from lighter to darker contrast. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to fix the problem on my own or, if a repair is necessary, what needs to be fixed. Thanks in advanced for your help!

For while, my Sony KP-51WS520 has occasionally been flashing red streaks on the screen then everything would be normal. However, during the last two days it's become more frequent then the TV just shuts off. The Standby Light is flashing 8 times which based on the manual I downloaded here (Thanks BTW) it is probably due to some audio component(?).

I am having an issue with some haloing and offsert colors on my Sony kp53V85 and noticed the led flashing 7 times before turning on. I was all hyped to rip out the IC's and change them (along with the picos) based on reading teh articles here. However I did a diagnostic test with the onscreen display and the TV indicated no errors.

How can I ensure its a faulty IC before open board surgery? Any help appreciated. Thanks!
