Help my rear projection big screen has power but no picture, sound or any auxiliary functions. Have tried disconnecting from power source to reset but it did not help. Anyone go through this before???

I have a Sony Trintron TV and anm unable to activate Closed Captioning. I have gone to the menu feature, and tried CC 1,2,3,4, and the four text features, no luck. What is Closed Captioning Mute? One of the articles posted here said to be sure that is off. Where do I find it on my menu?

I have a JVC HD-ILA 52" TV with an HDMI input and a SONY laptop plus docking station with a DVI output. When i attempt to hook up my laptop to the TV the picture is too large for the TV and I cannot adjust the resolution on the computer. It locks up. While the picture is clearer and brighter its somewhat distorted and programs that require a different resolution will not run. Am i ahead of my time thinking I could run all my programs through my TV using the HDMI input?
