Television and Home Theater

<I have an older Toshiba that a friend just gave me. I can get the remote to turn on and off PIP (picture in picture), yet when I try to play the DVD there is a split screen (which does not look like PIP nor does it turn off with the PIP button...or at least that is what I think it is called. The DVD plays but instead of one big picture, there are two identical pictures the same size on the screen. There are no instructions in the manual for this.

My Sony TV model KV27TS32 shut down the other day. The red power-on light at the front of the unit is not lit.Normally with the TV pluged into the wall this light is on regardless if the TV is in the operating mode or not.I removed the case and checked a fuse that was next to the incoming power cord and found it to be ok. This TV was new in 1993 and may need to be put to rest. Any ideas out there??

Sorry, forgot to add with my 36PT71 that if I leave it uplugged over night it stays on for a few hours, but if left plugged in after it shuts off and I wait 10 minutes, then it only stays on a few minutes.
