that is a balancer error,

that is a balancer error, does it come on then turn off again? if so you have a bad ccfl in the panel, if the set does not come on for a second then shut off it is a balancer board. In either case sony will replace the panel.
if it is in warranty they will replace the panel, if it is out of warranty they will want to do the same. But if you are adventuresome you can try to change the bad bulb, but it is easy to ruin the panel by taking it apart, sony does not recommend this and does not support the techs who do. I have replaced bulbs before but it is a challenge because removal of the lcd panel from it's mount is very delicate work the ribbon that is attached to the panel is very fragile if it is handled rough at all it can rip right off the panel, and if this happens there is no fixing it. Some shops may replace the bulb but you need to call them and ask if they will replace a bulb. some shops will refuse to.

I have a sony trinitron, kv

I have a sony trinitron, kv-40br800 that when you turn it on it goes into the standby mode and blinks 6 times, then nothing just keeps blinking. ? A repair told me it would be 200 dollars just to come out and check it, then maybe 500.00 to get the part ! anyone have any other ideas ?

can be either IC8002/IC6501

can be either IC8002/IC6501 both are the same part number on the d board. 200 for diagnosic sounds a little steep, 500 for repair sounds like they are replacing the board and not doing component level repair, granted it is not pratical to go to component level all the time but this is a common issue with all sony direct view tv;s

sony pn 8-759-670-30
generaic pn IC MCZ3001

evidently sony has extended its warranty on these models as there is a known problem which involves the panel. I live in Australia and it is to be honored over here as well. Also we have had a lot of humidity of late which we never usually get in Melbourne and they have had very high incidents reported with same problem. Anyway it will be fixed for free just have to wait for parts. Thanks for your replies.

I called sony, they pretty

I called sony, they pretty much stated I was on my own, that all they would do is give me a number of a repairman. However is price is far to high, I could go out and buy a 50 flat panel with the repair fee. No one I can find will stand behind the product at sony it's to bad it has a great picture and sound, I really loved that tv
