No Power, No Blink, Two Clicks On A/C Connection

I'm trying to help a friend diagnose and fix a problem with their TV. It's a Mitsubishi VS60607. It will not power up or display a diagnostic error code (via blinks). In fact, the unit is supposed to display three rapid blinks upon connection to power to indicate the microprocessor is functioning. Instead, the set simply makes two clicks approximately one second apart and never displays any blinking light at all. I ran across a similar failure from another post while searching the net, but check the diode on the 130V it mentioned as being the problem and it seems to be fine (it had shorted on the similar problem referenced). Is this something worth troubleshooting - or does the fact that the indication of the microprocessor not working (by the no blinks) mean I should let this set die? I have no problem taking the time and effort to help him troubleshoot this, but I want to make sure it's not a waste to begin with. I'm much more comfortable working with convergence problems than power supply problems, so I'll begin educating myself now so I can start some testing. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

CVinje
