plasma display panel basics

soniq QSP422T 42" plasma

LGEPDP 070111

model 42X4

am an old CRT electronics tech been out of the TV scene for many many years. dont know bugger all about plasma's. this TV has np ns, power supply all good, but the LGEPDP board model 42X4 has a blown fuse FS1 and and VSS is short to ground.

there are 2 long ribbon connectors that connect to the Plasma Panel. I guess this PCB is like a LOPT generating HV in CRT terms.

am only aware that plasma's have X and Y sustain boards and am guessing this is one of two.

I imagine replacing the whole module/PCB might go alright but what are the chances the plasma display panel itself blew this board out.

the two long ribbon connectors that connect to the panel have only one long conducting pad each. they are very high resistance to each other and to ground.

Is it common for these panels to go short at HV and blow these boards out ??

what risk percentage is involved, or should I just turn this TV into a coffee table.

can you direct me to some good plasma fundamentals reading or links for a basic overview on the function of SUS boards... sustain boards foooeee !!! wheres the yoke gone.....

thanks in advance

Alnp
the back of the pdp will have

the back of the pdp will have the model version and chassis number, pdp42x4xx.. where xx.. is the version number, like pdp42X4 or lg pdp42x4 or pdp42x4a...etc...

The y and z boards should be labeled as such and should have part numbers on the white sticker. Other brands/models may use the same boards.

Figure out which sus board blew the fuse, does the set have sound? Possibly bad hybrid ic (stk795, yppd) under the heat sink, inspect buffer boards.
Look for a shattered panel parts set.
