I have a Philips 55PW936317F Rear projector TV that is almost 8 yrs old. I have not had any trouble with it until this week when I turned it on & I got sound, but no picture. I turned it off, and took off the back panel to see if there was anything obvious that looked burned out. When I turned on the TV again, there was no more sound, but I could hear a ticking sound, but I could not tell where from the many circuit boards the ticking was coming from. The power indicator on the on/off switch on the front of the TV remains on. I tried to google the issue, and from what I've read, this could be caused by faulty power convergence chips. I have tried to find an online service manual for this TV, but have not been successful. When the power convergence chips go out, is it obvious by looking at the chips? If so, can anyone tell me where these chips are located on the many circuit boards inside this TV? If the chirping & no picture can also be other things, what else should I check? I'm a computer tech by day, and pretty handy at repairing things, but never worked on a TV before. I have unplugged the TV, but from working on power supplies on PC monitors, I know that TV's can be dangerous to work on since there are things that store power even after being unplugged. What do I need to be aware of when working on this thing? How long does it store power for after being unplugged? Does anyone have a service manual for this TV in PDF format? Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.
Look through the Resource tab for the complete service manual (7621). In view of the set's age, you can always suspect convergence IC failure and on many newer sets, this will cause a shutdown condition. I would try replacing both IC's and see if that fixes your problem. BTW, they use European callouts for parts on this TV, so it's a little tricky locating them.
Good luck!
Well, I found a website called tvrepairkits.com that had a tv convergence repair kit that included the 2 convergence chips as well as 12 replacement resistors. I replaced the chips & resistors as listed in the repair instructions that came with the kit, and after I put everything back together it still has no picture and chirps just like before. The TV power button lights up, and just like before, the 3 lamps are all off, and all you hear is a chirping sound. Any other suggestions as to what it could be?
