Hey everyone, brand spankin new to the community! I moved my TV to its new location and got no picture but had sound with the 7 blinks standby light. Repairman took a look at it and the flyback transformer fried right in front of him. Now whenever it powers on you hear that horrid electric grinding and popping. Before the grinding/popping however, there was a short period of time when it switched to 6 blinks. I was recommended to replace the Q5006 on the D-Board, the FBT, the HV regulator, and an additional part that is typically replaced with the HV regulator that attaches to the C, R, and T individually(can't remember what he called it). Obviously a hefty repair cost. Do I repair it myself (schematics in hand) or is it time for a new television? I really don't like the picture on the new flat panels and this TV is only 5 years old. Secondly, I brought another TV down and within a day, that fried too (not sure if it's the same electrical problems or not but picture is toast). This house is extremely old and I imagine the electrical wiring for the place isn't all that great by now. Could irregular or varying current have caused these problems or is it just coincidence that two televisions fried in the same room in under 48 hours? I want to be sure if I fix the problem the house just won't kill it again. Let me know what you think and thanks for the help!!
