Philips 55PW9383 Convergence help!!!

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could possibily help me solve my convergence
issue on my projection tv. I have a Philips 55PW9383 and i just
recently replaced the convergence IC chip. After completing it, I
loaded up the TV and i smell something burning. It turns out to be
the convergence resistors that was next to the red connector. So I went
out and bought the resistors, 6.8 ohm 1watt 5% tolerance flameproof. I
soldered it in and loaded up the tv again. Same thing happened,
resistors smoked and burnt out. I was watching it burn too. I did it
again, thinking third time is a charm, but same thing happened. Could
you possibility tell me why this is happening and what I can do to fix
it?

I bought the 120 IC from bluestar-online.com.

I got the resistors from a local electronics shop.

I found the TV in the dumpster!

Everything converges beside the red. I can't move it left and right, but i can move it up and down.

ANYONE HELP WILL DO! thank you!

good work finding the tv, the

good work finding the tv, the odds are you can get it working.

The aftermarket ic's you used could be faulty,
verify that 120's are correct,
order from Acme or somewhere that guarantees genuine Sanyo,

you could have created a solder bridge when installing the new ic's.
traces on the board to or from the ic's and resistors could be lifted.
coolant from a crt might have leaked on the boards creating a short.
check for bad solder joints on all boards.

thanks for the response!

thanks for the response!

Can you explain to me what you mean by creating a solder bridge on the new ics?
Also, what do you mean by traces on the board to or from the ics and resistors being lifted? Sorry i'm a newbie!

I checked all the solder joints and they seem to be correct, all hersey looking solders.

Nvm, i know what a solder

Nvm, i know what a solder bridge is now and it dosen't seem like i did that. I made sure none of them were touching. Though i still don't know what you mean by the other stuff. thanks!!

55PW9383 is one of the

55PW9383 is one of the Philips 300 series chassis.
Here is a write up for convergence repair:
http://techghetto.com/tv-repair/

Verify in the service manual parts list that 120's are the right chip for 55PW9383, buy sanyo brand only, generics may or may not work for a while, use thermal paste behind the stk's.

Check the resistors and stk's traces, the copper lines that run between components, for continuity. You might be able to see a burned or lifted trace with a magnifier, but a continuity tester is better. Look closely near the burned resistors, look closely under the stk's. If you find a damaged trace you can use a small wire from component to component to repair.

ACME Enterprises of Orlando sells good stk's.
A place called tvrepairkits.com will sell you the correct parts and provide technical assistance if needed.

Yea these philips are a bit

Yea these philips are a bit more difficult then the normal projection convergence when they blow, I have been experiencing the traces on these boards are easy to burn, also found that magnavox is also notorious for this, I had a Philips that was blowing my mind with the convergence and checked the traces and what do ya know, very good write up for troubleshooting these 392-120s ALNP , dunno if the current is hotter with thees or what but the 392-110s take resistors with them when they go but not with the force I see with these sets

Are these the correct

Are these the correct resistors for this model convergence repair? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1w-Watt-6-8-K-Ohm-Metal-Film-Resistor-20-Pcs-/39...
