sound quit working on Samsung large flat hdtv

Hello,

Please forgive my lack of tech savviness, but I believe this is a very unique problem. I have a Samsung large flat tv with built in speakers, no fancy sound setup. Everything was working fine until this morning when I muted my program to answer a phone call. I unmuted it and ever since then there has been no sound! I changed channels, turned the TV on and off several times, but nothing. The volume indicates that there is sound, but nothing. I never messed with the cables or anything and I am completely stumped as to what could be going on.

Someone please help! I will forever appreciate it.

Thanks

This may sound silly, but

This may sound silly, but have you tried unplugging the set, waiting a few minutes, then plugging it back in and turning it on?

I only mention this as merely turning it on and off does not truly "power cycle" the device. My television, when shut off by a power surge for example, requires me to unplug it then plug it back in to restore it.

Give it a try. Just make sure that you leave it unplugged for several minutes.

If that doesn't work, consult your user manual for the TV to conduct a "hard reset" of the software inside the TV, if one is available. This will probably erase all your picture settings, channel memory, and anything else stored in the TV's memory, but may solve your problem if it is software related.

Another thought (depending on

Another thought (depending on your setup), if you use a cable or satellite box they sometimes have their own independent volume control. So, if you pressed mute on the cable box or turned the volume down using that remote, then tried to turn it back up with the TV's remote, you wouldn't get sound.
