Hi, here are 2 pics of the back side of the DM power bd with the 7 caps but noticed brown trails between alot of soldier joints. They don't wipe off, and seem imbedded. I don't know what, but I do work with Ion implanters (500 kev or more) and the tend to arc across at any chance of a short cut to ground. Is this a sign of that? I saw some other post photos with the same thing. normal or not?
Actually when I looked again at the pics, it looks like some residue all over bd (maybe from pre-assy stencil litho mask residue whatever), but takes a pattern near the voltage pts.
Also, thank you, as a hobby, I am 3 for 3 fixing on the Mits 1080i. I even inspired my 16 yr old nephew and he just fixed a 65" on his own with zero experience (but with your help). Oh, he bought it for $50 (imagine a 16 year old with a Wii that had a 19" tube). Ok, enough.
Thanks, Joe. (getting ready to replace the unswollen, but suspect caps).

that residue looks typical, from some part of the mfg process I guess.
You can buy a lot of caps for the price of a good esr meter, but just replace them all on principle given the history of that dm.
Give your nephew a pat on the back and point him towards the Techlore articles section.
