question about the writing on circut boards

when connecting one board to another, do both boards have the same description where the wire harness connects to them? ... Example would be, If it shows,  vol, mute, L speaker, R speaker and so on. Would that be on both boards? and also when it comes to color wire harnesses, would a red connection be pluged into a white one? I am having trouble reconnecting the wire harnesses to my tv and would appreciate help from any one. Thanks
