Hi all,
First time poster here, this is a great forum! I have lots of experience working on tvs, but none in projection models. I have an offer of a free 51MP392H/17 that has no red color output. From what I have researched this afternoon, and after downloading the svc. manual I have some questions that I need to ask the experienced folks here. Do the CRT's behave like the old CRT's that are in standard color sets? I mean, is it likely that I have a dead CRT or more likely that I have a problem in the associated drivers or HV circuits? What is the most prone to failure in this set? And probably most important, is it worth lugging the thing home or am I looking at spending big bucks for parts? I've got the tools and skills to work on it, I am just concerned about the cost of parts. I don't want to get into something that is going to cost me a hundred bucks and end up having to repair the other two guns later on...I'd sure appreciate your advise on this.
Thanks much!
By all means, GET IT! Start with a cleaning and inspection.
The odds are good it can be repaired cheaply, used parts are available the chassis was used on many sets.
Thanks, anyone else have an opinion on this chassis? I've never seen one, is it a good set?
Update:
I found a metal knock-out tab on the pcb and removed it, now I have red but the convergence is screwed up. Two 6r8 burned resistors right next to the red yoke plug, replaced, and I have ordered two new convergence IC's from a fellow on the auction site. I'm expecting them in the mail at any time, and I sure hope to be watching a
