I have a Sony KV34XBR800 with the dreaded 6
blinks. Sometimes I could get the set to come on by powering it up a
few times. When it doesn't come on, I've seen 4 blinks, followed by 6
blinks; a few times 7 blinks. But usually, it goes right into 6
blinks. I did recall once that the picture got bigger and then faded
off, all within a second, before shutting down.
I've gone
through the forums and it appears that the most common fix has to do
with the D Board's IC6501 and IC8002. So I replaced both of those IC's
and the set came on. The TV was turned on and
off at least 6 times that day and it worked fine. But the next
morning, it was back to 6 blinks.
When I had the D Board out, I
inspected the solder joints and they all appear to be fine; bright and
shinny. I found a 33mfd cap whose top wasn't quite as flat as the
others so i replaced it too. Don't know if that cap was bad or not as
both the new and old one reacted the same when tested with a DVM. The
cap was only a $1.
I had an extra MCZ3001DB. Figuring that this
IC has a pretty high failure rate, I swapped it for the IC6501 and then
for the IC8001, but I still get 6 blinks.
I'm not ready to
retire this set. The picture is exceptional, when it was working.
Replacing the D Board is no guarantee. Besides costing a fare sum of
money, it isn't as satisfying as fixing the D Board. That's assuming
the problem isn't elsewhere.
Can someone guide me through to resolving this 6 blink problem?
