Mitsubishi VS-50502 discharging high voltage?

Hi,

I want to start by stating that I was trained years ago as a computer technician. I have discharged many CRTs in my day. I understand that the television holds a charge even when turned off and unplugged.

I have to remove the circuit board on my Mitsubishi VS-50502. I want to be sure I go about discharging the high voltage safely and correctly. I have not done this before on a rear projection television, but I assure you I will be very careful. I absolutely respect electricity - especially 35,000 volts!

Anyway, can someone give me the procedure for doing this safely?

One thing I also want to ask about is that there is a sign inside the tv that says to discharge the high voltage to the Chassis, and not the external ground. Maybe because it has been a while since I was in the business, but I don't know exactly what the difference is.

In other words, exactly where should I be discharging the charge? I don't want to damage any other components. I really don't see too much metal that looks like a good place, as I am used to on CRTs.

Thanks!
