My brother gave me a Philips 60" rear projection TV. Model 60pp920217F chassis is DPTV305F. He said there was a problem with it turning on. I got it, plugged it in, pushed the power button, and all i got was a red status light on the button. I tried to turn it off & the status light started to blink...i believe 9 times. I called a repair shop but all the ones in my area wont do in home repairs due to the distance. However the guy on the phone told me it was most likely the power supply. I have some electrical board experience from some years back, so its not entirely new to me. Any suggestions, i have the service manual & schematics. All help would be appreciated.
Some basic things to try:
Try slowly pushing the source (input) button on the front panel to cycle through the different inputs, while watching the screen for changes, if any.
Check all cable connections.
Unplug power and tilt the chassis tray up to do a visual inspection on bottom, with strong light and magnifier, for bad solder joints. Pay particualr attention to anything on a heatsink, and connectors.
Do a visual on top for burnt components or coolant leaks.
Ok, checked all the inputs, everything is fine. I will inspect the powerboard next. thanks
Ok i checked the AC input board. No burnt components or coolant leaks. The only thing i notices was the #5000 Coil, 10u (2422 535 95363) the solder on the copper conections look a little burnt & have turned the white plastic a light tan. Everything else checks out visually...should i start measuring the componets one at a time?
OK, I had a guy i know look at it & this is what he said. He said that the high voltage power supply needs to be replaced. He explained that I have a low voltage supply which is why the power button is lit once pressed, and a high voltage supply which needs to be replaced.
Please HELP!!!
