Greetings folks, I read as many other posts as I could find regarding problems like this, so I was able to dig into the big box and locate & test ALL the fuses described on the FUSE INFO sticker, including the two on the underside of the DM module main board - and they are all good. The TV was on, went "pop" just like it had been turned off, but then would not respond to any remote, front panel buttons (including power, reset, device w/menu, & so on) or the unplug for 30 minutes & hold power button down thing - all nothing. I tested it on different working AC outlets & verified AC power is present on the downstream side of the main (glass) fuse so it isn't a flaky power cord or line connection. There is a faint inverter whine briefly on plugging & unplugging the power cord, so at least one power supply appears to be doing something. But no usual power-loss message, no picture, no LED blinking or otherwise, no sound, nothing. I visually inspected as much of as many of the PCBs as I could, and there were no swollen caps or other signs of damage; I reseated most every connector and card - still nothing.
I will see if I can obtain a service guide for this TV, but does this sound like a specific supply rail or another fundamental fault? I don't know how similar the other Mitsubishi models are, perhaps this is a common occurrence with a common fix! The only out-of-ordinary event was a spare sheet of drywall (remodeling...) falling against the back of the set some hours earlier - certainly not a dramatic impact.
OK, downloaded the service manual, browsed it and was tending towards a problem with a dead regulator or problem with the standby circuitry... Then today tried some more button pushing. On an impulse I held the reset button in a long time, and the green led starting flashing. Then I pressed the menu & device buttons... green led off a while then on flashing again... I pressed the power button and it woke up.
I SWEAR I had tried this several times in last few days and NOTHING. TV functions perfectly at this time.
Problem solved. If this failure scenario returns, I will post on consequences... in meantime, it looks like persistence pays of, same as with many computer-based equipments.
Also, I checked my warranty - I'd bought TV from Fry's w/5-yr replacement plan - but it expired June 10 - five days before this odd problem occurred... I almost suspected a built-in planned failure!
Basically what I learned is this - try holding in reset a LONG time. What role pulling and inserting power plug several times, can't say.
Good oppo to clean lenses anyway. Picture looks better than before...
BarryB You are the man!!!! I searched all over for a power issue on the WS-65611 that did NOT reference a blinking light until I found yours - the 'pop' and your situation was exactly like mine and your troubleshooting - hold the reset button... then power up....fantastic! Do you realize how many folks probably spent money trying to fix the wrong thing? Kudos, man. Best.

Where is the reset button? I have a WS-65807 with the exact same problem.
Looking at my TV it looks like a bad voltage regulator. I checked R9A02 and I get no voltage from it. The component before this resistor looks to be some sort of regulator or an inverter. This could be the component at fault. Will update later.
