Samsung PCL5415R convergence problem

Notice several entries regarding convergence problems and thought I should share mine for any assistance someone might have. Specifically recall an entry July 23, 2007 about a similar model Samsung in which I performed the same repairs. I purchased a convergence board and installed. All colors then distorted (no problem I was expecting that). I go to align and nothing happens. I tried to align through the Function menu but the TV distorts even worse and then powers off automatically, the LED in the front blinks 3 times and then TV powers on automatically. I decide to click Perfect Focus but it freezes. Joystick will not shift the grid nor can I exit Perfect Focus. I purchased a service manual but not sure the correct sequence to follow for manual focus. I contacted Samsung, they were willing to help. I got to 2nd Tier support and to my surprise the answer I got was "I don't know". I was at least hoping for a step by step walk through to see what we get with a manual focus attempt. Any suggestions? Anyone have an exact step by step to get to the service screen for a manual focus? The service manual is not clear enough for me. Any other part I should look for or consider replacing? When should I call it quits and except my defeat?

The Replacement Modules are

The Replacement Modules are not always Perfect Replacements , Most and I mean Most You Have to do a Very Complex Reconvergence ITS Much Better to Rebuild the Original Module that came with the TV from the Factory !

Yes, I have original module

Yes, I have original module still in possession

As for a rebuild of the

As for a rebuild of the original module, what is your recommendation/starting point?
This all started by cutting on the TV a few weeks ago and the red (only) was distorted.
So, I see what you are getting at. I even entertained that possibility one time but I was going to be forced to solder (the IC chips)

More interesting facts I

More interesting facts I discovered tonight after you peeked my curiosity about factory module.
Took the new convergence board out and replaced with factory
Red line/distort still there but did the following before plugging back in:
- definitely a difference in the 2 even though I was told it worked with my model
- the replacement has 3 things on the back that are soldered in, looks as if some type of bypass
- big chip is one part number off from one factory (SD12 vs. SD11)

With factory chip I was able to:
- see service screen with service manual coding
- Perfect Focus operates but kicks out after a few attempts at the Red color
- the Function menu still throws up a crazy screen before powering the TV down
- performed manual picture coding, geometric coding (nothing was horrible off or out of sync) and reset through service screen
Still had red distortion
Swapped the modules once more and was able to get the service screen to come up with new module and briefly viewed the codings on picture and geometrics.
Tried the Perfect Focus again and it still freezes. With factory module Perfect F. automatically tries to align. With new module it shows grid and will not align. Almost seems like it wants me to do, but that is where I hit the wall.

Yes the Replacement Module

Yes the Replacement Module will work But what they don't tell you is you have to do a Complete Realignment which on samsung TV's is Very complex and can be a nightmare if you have not been trained to do the Complex alignments First I would Replace the STK's on the Original Module You can use the New Stk's on the New Module to repair the Original module

I would have to agree, I

I would have to agree, I always replace the IC"s and most of the time, the alighnment is not out by that much unless the customer tried to fool with the adjustments before the set was repaired.
