Optical engine. You might

Optical engine. You might want to call Sony customer service on the outside chance that the engine might be covered by an extended warranty. Otherwise, prepare for major $$ to repair.

remove the Lamp and see if

remove the Lamp and see if Dirty from Dust & look up into the slot were the lamp go's and see if there is a buildup of dust on the clear lens ,seen a lot of weird images from just a Dirty lamp and lens If there is a heavy buildup you might have to clean the mirrors in the optical engine too.

Forgot to add try not to

Forgot to add try not to tough the lamp face with your fingers if you do before putting lamp back in set clean the lamp with Isopropyl rubbing Alcohol which will remove the oil that your fingers left on the lamp which can Harm the Lamp

thanks for the tips. i will

thanks for the tips. i will try cleaning the lamp/lens. also today while playing with the settings i noticed that the hole picture has to much green tint to the whole thing. i tried to adjust it out but it didnt really help. it was either to green or not enough color at all. ?? does this tv have picture tubes ?? if so could this be a symptom of one going bad ? it's kinda like the image is not getting enough blue. could this be because all the blue color is being projected only on the outer edges of the screen ?? i know that sounds weird but im just not sure how a DLP TV works . thanks again for your help !!

As I already stated.

As I already stated.

You have a bad optical engine. Unless Sony has extended the warranty on the engines for this model this is going to be an expensive repair ($700 - 1000) possibly more.

Contact Sony customer service (should be in your owners manual) to see if this set qualifies for any warranty extension for the engine.

This is a very common problem

This is a very common problem with Sony rear-projection LCD TVs. Pretty much all of Sony's rear-projection LCD TVs have been the subject of voluntary warranty extensions, class action lawsuits, or both due to inherent latent defects in the optical blocks, which contain the LCD panels. Unfortunately, most of the extended coverage has now ended, leaving thousands of customers out of luck, and the repair costs >$1,000. See my support web site for additional details:

Hey, I have the same model

Hey, I have the same model with the same problem. I just got off the phone with Sony tech support and they said it is the optical block. They also are offering me pretty hefty discounts to upgrade to one of (3) newer LCD models (no XBR TVs though). Give them a call...

I wish somebody sells

I wish somebody sells indivdual part of the optical engine rather than the hole block
