I was recently given a ws-55511 that doesnt work. When I tried the set, the picture on the screen was not clear looks really blurry and although the picture from the cable is blurry the setup menu looks fine I was told at first the problem would only happen for a short while then would act as though normal. When I was given the t.v. the person said a repair man quoted $600 to replace the convergence board. I now have the t.v. apart in my living room and the projection unit ready to be serviced. Can you help me to test the possible faulty components before I replace them as well as let me know what type of solder and tip to use on this circuit board if it is determined that the IC needs to be replaced. I have also read that some fuses might need replacing can you help me identify them and give me the name of a reputable supplier of OEM parts if these are necessary.

the service manual is available for this TV set under the resources tab in the technicians corner tab for a free download. The resources tab is on the home page on the upper right side of the page. The IC you need can be purchased from
http://www.electronic-repair-kits.com/STK393-110.html, The number on the IC is STK393-110. There is only one in this TV set. You really also need to know how to solder on a printed circuit board. If you do not, or have very little experience soldering, get a pal or someone to unsolder and re-solder this IC for you. You cannot see the IC from the back of the TV set. It is facing the front, mounted on the large metal heat sink with fins on it. You should get the service manual as it will show you how the chassis comes out of the set and how to disassemble the set as well. Good luck!
