On & Off

I was told that turning a tv on for say 10 minute's then off again for 15 minutes then on again is BAD for a tv or is this just an old wifes tail. I know this has nothing to do with fixing a tv set but it just bugged me for years

Well, it certainly will not

Well, it certainly will not harm a newer set. On older TV sets the capacitors and some of the other discrete components get a bit fatigued, so surging them on and off time after time will cause a premature break down of that part. What your talking about, in my opinion, is an old wife's tale. Does anyone else out there have an opinion? And why?

I actually wrote about this

I actually wrote about this in an old Ask The Experts post from way back. I came to a similar conclusion to Larry after questioning a few friends in the business. You can read it here: http://www.techlore.com/article/12356/Does-Turning-a-TV-Off-and-On-Quick...

In the end, as long as you're not sitting there with a remote turning it on and off a hundred times in a row day in and day out, you're probably fine.

Hay thanks a lot guys the new

Hay thanks a lot guys the new verses the old is a lot different. At least now I don,t have to carnage when my instructor shows a video and turns off the tv and 30min. later turners it back on.
