My 2 year old Sony 57" rear projection tv (model KP57WS520) is having issues with the stanby light. The light will blink 9 times, stop for a few seconds, and then start blinking again. I called Sony to have a tech look at it and they told me on the phone that it would be $350 excluding parts... what is wrong with my tv? and is there anything I can do to fix it?
i'm also having a problem with my sony projection hdtv. i spent a hundred dollars for an expert to look at it for two seconds. he told me that i needed to replace the d board and the part is $150 and labor is $450. does anyone know if it is hard to locate the dboard and replace it without any previous knowledge? or can someone do the job cheaper than $600? if so, let me know. i live in pasco county florida. thanks, russell
That sounds a bit steep for a repair or replacement of the D board. Find someone you know who is handy and can remove the D board. You can then contact ptscorp.com. Get the telephone number and call them, They can overhaul the board for a lot less then 600 bucks. Good Luck
i have a sony 51ws520 projection tv.....when i try to power up the stand by light blinks 9 times......when i go to the self diagnossis screen the television works fine except for the "self diagnosis"... numbers on the screen,,,,,,,, is there anyway to bypass the standby feature???
The only way to by-pass the diagnostic screen is to fix the problem. You have what's called a zero- cross over fault with the power supply on The G board. There are Two Diodes that are bad on the board. If you read the proper thread here on techlore you will find the correct part numbers and what needs to be replaced. Good Luck
well...i guess i got lucky....i did it ..i bypassed the standby button..i dont know how but i did it by randomy presing the buttons on the remote in the diagnostic mode....
I doubt it my friend, I truly think the set started working as this is one symptoms of this fault. You will need to replace the diodes to fix this problem.
I have a kp57ws520 and over the last couple of days have had trouble with it turning on. Standby light would blink so I would have to keep hitting power button and finally it would go on. Today, I could not get it to go on at all. It would blink 10 times the first time and then 9 time everytime after that. Read service manual and it says to have it serviced. TV is 2 years old with no warranty left. Needless to say in this economy I don't have the money to have it professionally repaired. Came upon this blog and began to think that it was hopeless and the board needed to be replaced. Well, I started playing around with it and what I did was unplug, then when I plugged it back in I hit the power button at the same time. Guess what it came on. I am afraid to turn it back off because I really want to watch the news so I will leave it on till later and hope for the best tomorrow. I hope this helps someone and I also hope this means that the board is not shot. Please respond if anyone has any input. Thanks.
