I have a Sharp LC-45GD4U that is a little over 2 years old. I have had no issues with the set at all, until the other day, when it spontaneously shut itself off.
Over the past few days, I've tried to do a few things in an attempt to diagnose, and here's what I've experienced:
First occurrance - TV shut off while displaying video from Sci-Atl Explorer HD Cable Box. It is connected to the TV via HDMI. Happened repeatedly. Would turn on again without a problem, but would shut down fairly quickly thereafter. Same night, put on a DVD (connected to TV via a Component Video input), and it played without a problem.
Next day, unhooked the HDMI connection, and used a standard coaxial to connect cable box to TV. Other than the fact that I couldn't get HD, it played fine for the entire day.
Second Occurrance - decided to try and use Component Video connection from Cable Box to TV (using a 2nd Component input slot on the TV, not the same as the DVD player mentioned above). Played fine for about an hour, then shut off . I turned it on again, made it through another hour, and it shut off by itself again.
After this, I looked at the vents in the back, and they were filled with dust. Used a vacuum to clear that up and immediately retried. It still shut off by itself after a few minutes.
I am now back to the coax connection, and it has been fine. I had it on most of the day yesterday without a problem. But I can't stand the lower quality picture.
At no point have I actually unplugged the TV from the wall.
So I have the TV shutting off when using two different 2 HD input sources (one HDMI and one Component).
Anyone have any ideas on what's going on, or how to fix?
