Philips Model 50PP920217F Chassis DPTV305F replaced ic's and fuses & blinking red led now
50" Rear Projection TV
I originally started out having a blue haze around images and lettering on picture, which couldn't be adjusted. Then, I started having double images with the red and green. My husband replaced the IC's stk392-120's with stk392-180's because someone on a web forum said they were stronger. He put heat sink compound on back of IC's and and soldered pins. He didn't replace any of the resistors because he thought they looked good. Put everything back together, but a ribbon cable may have not been connected and two resistors blew on the board.
He replaced those two, plus 6 larger resistors near the IC's that didn't test for having continuity on the circuit. Service manual called for 6R8 1Watt metal film. Radio Shack wasn't sure what 6R8 was and wanted to know what the ohms was, but service manual only listed above. They compared the bands on resistors and gave us 1 watt resistors that were supposedly compatible. Plugged everything back in and it just has the red power button blinking with no picture. If he unplugs the cable closest to the IC's that goes to the second board, the power button stays a solid red, which he read, meant that we still had an IC issue.
Can anyone tell me if or how to test the IC's and if we shouldn't have upgraded to the stk392-180's? Prior to us trying to fix it, we at least had a poor quality picture. He has tested all of the fuses for continuity on the convergence board and they seem fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We ordered IC's off of electronix.com. Should we replace ic's and 6 fuses again? Also, how can I confirm that we have connected all the cables correctly. I have downloaded the Philips service manual for this model, but wasn't sure what to look for. Should numbers on the board correspond to something on the cables, etc. We labeled them 1st, but a few of the labels fell off.
We confirmed all the wire connections last night with the wiring diagram. The are all connected correctly. I also got all the part numbers for the 6 resistors, 3161-3166 and the two that blew were 3153 & 3154 that we replaced. So, I think I will order the stk392-120; instead of, the stk392-180; along with the resistors above and give it another try. I can't get into the service menu, since there is no video. The power button led just blinks repeatedly nine times. I tried to figure out the diagnostic code in the manual for this, but wasn't sure. It may be IC communication failure?
If anyone has any suggesstions or comments, please let me know.
The 180's are fine, i work on Philips all the time, that is one of my main lines here. 6r8 means 6.8 ohms it is a Japanese thing. Don't ask me why, i don't know. that is how they are doing allot of descriptions, the letter is the decimal point. The ic's could have been damaged again if you knocked out some resistors, you can't look at a resister and tell if it is good or not, you need a meter to do this. The blue haze is due to bad fluid in the tube, you need to change the fluid if you haven't yet. it sounds like you need to re-check everything, when a problem gets worse instead of better, you need to re-check everything you have done.
I'm having the same problem, though never tried any repair before. What can I do to get started?
We purchased new IC's from www.mcmelectronics.com (sanyo brand) and the 6 - 3W 100 ohms 5% resistors and the 1W 6.8 ohms 5% resistors from www.mouser.com that blew previously and had replaced with a brand from Radio Shack. We replaced all of them again. Tested all the circuits to be sure they had continuity after we soldered them. Put the board back in and confirmed that all the connectors were connected properly. We turned the tv on and got the same result. No picture, no sound, and the power led light blinks repeatedly 9 times. It doesn't allow me to get into the service code menu since there is no video. We also tested the fuses on the power supply board, but couldn't find any that were not working. I tried to purchase the entire board from www.partstore.com, but they said that they can no longer get it. When I checked Philips website, I couldn't find where they offered any parts for this model anymore. No one locally will work on it. Does anyone know where I can get a new board that is compatible with this model? Or could possibly give me an idea where to check from here to see whats wrong? It worked before we tried changing the IC's, the picture was just 3 dimensional with green and red and blue was off also. It's a shame to throw away a tv that is only 4 or 5 years old.
i have the same problem, please post finale solution for this
Sorry, we tried everything and finally gave up.
