I've got a Sony KV-24FV12 that croaked the other day. When turned on (with remote or front panel), a rapid succession of clicks (7 or 8) can be heard then it will power off after a few seconds. There's never a picture or sound. I get blink codes from the standby light after it powers off. Usually it blinks four times first, then repeats five blinks indefinitely. I presume this means I have code 4 and 5 in succession. Sometimes I'll just get two blinks over and over. Lucky me, it seems like I get all three possible error codes from this thing!
I've got a copy of the service manual, but it's a bit scant on troubleshooting details. I'm pretty handy with a DVM and soldering iron (used for DIY auto repair, mostly), but I need to know where to use them. Anyone have any pointers or suggestions where to start?
Thanks for any help!
While testing I noticed that when powering on, once every 3 or 4 tries I get a whiff of smoke just before auto power off. Seems to be coming from the area between the flyback transformer and IC502. Not sure if that helps diagnosis at all.
Update:
I found that these 24" Wegas have a known weakness in the FBT. I just finished putting in a new flyback and it came right up! I went with the $30 aftermarket one instead of an original Sony. I had to splice two of the wires (not the anode cap), and one of the pins didn't line up with the original hole, but it was close enough to an adjacent one that was on the same circuit, but had no PTH. I just gobbed on the solder and crossed my fingers. A little fiddling with the screen and focus adjustments on the new FBT and now I can put the 13" in the back room again. HTH someone in the future...
