I'm sure the answers to all my following questions are somewhere on this site, but some direction would be greatly appreciated. I believe I have the same problem as this person http://www.techlore.com/forum/thread/19475/Sony-KP51WS510-Convergence-fixed--but-flashing-led./ not the blinking, but the convergence problem. My wife is hinting at buying a new TV, but I believe I can repair this one with some help from this site. I really don't want to spend $400.00-$500.00 for a repair person or $1,000.00 + for a comparable TV. This TV is only about 3 1/2 years old! I need to try and make the repair. I'm quite handy, but have never repaired a TV. I would need to know how to make the repair from A to Z. Thank in advance for any help.
William
I have located the IC chips. Is removing the chips as simple as unscrewing the 2 phillips screws (4 total)? How are the IC chips connecting to the D board? Do I need to remove the D board or can I just remove the chips? Where do I purchase the IC chips? Sorry about all the questions. I don't want to make this any more difficult than it might already be, although so far it's been quite easy.
It's me again. As I learn/read more things, I'll post here.
I just read where someone disconnected the D board and did some soldering. My experience with soldering is limited, but probably more than average. Again, I saw where someone mailed something to Sony for repair. His total cost was $65.00. I'm assuming he shipped his D board to Sony and had them replace the chips. Is that assumption plausible? Assuming that's the case, does anyone have the address to which I would ship the D board? If I decide to install the chips myself, could someone rate the difficulty on a scale of 1 to 10?
William, you will need to know how to solder. If you do not, you could ruin the small traces on the board. Maybe have a friend who knows how to solder do it for you. I will send you a couple of great links on the repair and adjustment of your set. Also, go to ptscorp.com or Tristate.com, get their telephone numbers and ask them what they will charge to repair the board. It is not that expensive to have them do it professionally. Good Luck with your repair. Read the links before going ahead please.

Thanks for the reply, Larry. I'll do some reading and let you know the outcome of the repair. Happy New Year to all.
Made the repair last night. TV works great now. Thanks for all the help. The 2 IC chips cost me $26.00 (approx). The repair took about 2 hours tops.
I have ony 1 question...how did everyone else remove the old IC chips? Once I broke them free from the heat sinks, I stretched the IC chips up and carefully moved the chips back and forth to break the pins. It was easier to work the old pins out individually without the chips attached. Thought this might be helpful info for someone in the future.
i have done that in the past also when I did not have any wick or a solder sucker. It works. Great to hear you fixed your TV set. It is a great feeling when you can do a repair like this and save several hundred bucks in the meantime.
