Having problems reading dvd. Intermittent. Will read for a few minutes then die. Once it gets warm it just keeps giving me this sound like a car reving for a Nascar race.
Should I try to repair? Trash it? Any self help ideas?

You can try opening up teh unit and cleaning the lens with a cotton swab and alcohol. The unit is attempting to read the disc. When you hear it racing, the tracking info is not being read correctly and the disc is not locking in at the correct speed. If cleaning the lens does not fix the problem, the optics are bad and the unit should be replaced.
