HITACHI 53FDXO1BA

I have a Hitachi rear projection tv Model53FDX01BA which is about 7 years old.A few daysback I turned it on and it has a double image on the whole screen. Tried to adjust the vert. convergenceThe red is completely off the target and unable to adjust.I have read about the ICs.  I am  mechanically inclined .Any input will be appreciated.
