My computer wont recognize rca pearl

ive tried time and time again to install the player through the cd, but every time i try to connect it, the hardware manager finds it, but it doesnt show up in my computer or any other folder for that matter.  i run windows xp, service pack 2.  i meet all the minimum requirements.  can somebody tell me what im doing wrong?
