A router is a device that lets you connect more than one computer device to an internet connection at the same time. Typical inexpensive consumer models usually let you plug in up to 4 devices - PC's, PS3's, Tivo's, etc at one time. Some routers only allow you to connect with a wire and some routers support connecting wirelessly (if your computer/device supports wireless connections). A router does not get you onto the internet, however - you need a service like cable modem or DSL and some sort of modem. The router just "splits" that internet connection for you so you can connect multiple devices at the same time.
You can get routers at any major electronics store like Best Buy or Circuit City. Or you could find them in the electronics department of most departments stores too.
