I just got a new DVD Recorder - a Sony RDR-VX525 - and I have no problem recording television shows, but when I try to transfer a video to DVD or try to record a movie from the satellite, it tells me it cannot record a copy protected movie. Is there a box or something I can do/buy to overcome this issue? Help!
Thanks -

I have a new SONY RDR-VX555 and I have the same problem. Is it only the Sonys that have this problem or can someone tell me which ones that you can buy that doesn't have this Copy Guard Function on them?
I have the same problems is sony just junk?
I wonder if other brands are the same cause I am considering returning mine and getting a different brand. Normally Sony is a good brand but this is just not what I want, so my recorder is useless to me.
I am taking mine back to sams today and get the panasonic and hope for the best
Are you certain that Panasonic doesn't have the Copy Guard Function on them? Wonder how good the Panasonics are, guess it can't be worse than what we have now right?
I took mine back to sams and went to best buy and got a panasonic ez47v and it works like a dream. Problem solved. I guess the answer is don't buy sony..DUMB OLD SONY COPY GUARD i guess that's their loss not mine.

Thanks for the info, taking mine back tomorrow. That is a HUGE help! I hope Circuit City has that one cause they will only let me exchange it unless I wait 8 weeks for a refund due to me paying with a check. I have a receipt and the original box. Oh well, long as I can get one that is useful.
Sony is great for computers but not DVD recorders! I wonder if they are the only ones that have the copy guard!
Thanks again!
Hey Rick, another question, does it transfer a DVD to a VHS tape?
I have not tryed that yet maybe soon....also I took the sony back to sam's and went to circuit city to buy the panasonic they had just marked it down too $279.00 but i seen it at ABC warehouse for $259.00 so Circuit City matched it.
I think i made a good deal and NO copy guard
I just took mine back to Circuit City and traded my Sony into the exact same DVD recorder you purchased. I haven't had the chance to try it yet but I got a good feeling about it. I don't think we have an ABC Warehouse in Louisville or I would have tried that too!
I hope you enjoy your recorder. Let me know how it turns out after you learn all the features. It looks like a winner!
Hey Rick, got another question, how long did it take for you to get your automatic channel/clock setting done? Mine has been going for almost two hours and it is still not done. Do you know if there is a way to cancel and restart it?
I had the same problem it seems you have to watch what you are recording with satellite. But if you have cable it programs ?
I dont know y this works this way. I called the hot line and had a tech go over the seting with me and all is working ok.
So i guess if you want to record one channel and watch another we have to swich to cable.
Problem's Problem's Problem's

Thanks so much for your suggestion. I went back and got the Panasonic on Amazon for $266.04. I love it.
