Compacks 800 dvd player

I have had this player for nearly 3 years and it has worked brilliantly until today.

Now it does not recognise any DVD i try to play.

The screen shows " Loading...... and then says "incorrect disc

It can read an audio CD but not as it used to do.

Does anyone have any ideas why this has happened all of a sudden?

Based upon you description, I

Based upon you description, I'd say that the optics are beginning to fail.  Normally when this happens, DVDs are unreadable but Cds can work.  Try cleaning the lens with a cotton swab and alcohol.  This may help if the lens has a dust film.

Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the advice.

I have already tried a lens cleaning kit but will try your suggestion.

If that fails to resolve the problem is it possible/feasible to repair it.

A lens cleaning kit is

A lens cleaning kit is nothing but small brushes on a cd. Other than removing loose dust, they are worthless.  Cleaning with alcohol will remove any film that may be there.  As far as a repair goes, yes it is possible.  Costly though, and not usually worth the expense.
