I have an LG RC797 Dvd/VCR Recorder. It is less than a year old and I am transferring my sister's home video's to dvd disc for Christmas and it's been acting up. It won't read a disc - any disc. It starting with having to press close 4 or 5 times before it would read. It would close, say "reading" and then open again. Now it closes and opens everytime but will not follow through and read a disc. I have tried every type of disc new/blank/recorded/old/purchased movie. It used to help it I would shut it off for a few minutes or as a last resort, unplug for a little while.
However, none of those things work anymore. All of a sudden a few days ago I finalized a disc, removed it and put in a blank to record and it has not read a disc since. PLEASE HELP if you have any ideas.
Thanks
Yvette
There are several possibilities:
Laser alignment problem, bad spindle motor, shot laser assembly, electronic problems, etc.
Basically, you could try a laser lens cleaning disc to see if there's build-up on the lens. Otherwise, it would need to be diagnosed by a tech for any definitive answer.
Thank you I will try the laser lens disc first and cross my fingers.....only 4 more days to finish the transfer of videos....Thank you so much for responding I really appreciate it.

You can try teh lens cleaning disc, but my experience says that they are pretty much a waste. They are only small brushes on a disk and can only remove loose dust. You may have to open up the unit and clean the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. Please if you do this apply only a little pressure onto the lens itself.
Keep us posted,
Dan
I'm about to go try the lens cleaner, I already had one but had not used it yet so I'll find out shortly. If that doesn' work I'll try the gentle cotton swab and alcohol. I'll let you know what happens. Thank you so much for the idea. I'll keep you posted.

Bummer, the lens cleaner won't read wither. It just pops back out like all other discs. It'll take awhile to get the player out of the media set up I have (lots of equipment) so I'll let you know how it goes with the Q-tip. Thanks a bunch-I'll let you know how ti goes.
