PT-52LCX65

I have a Panasonic PT-52LCX65 rear projection HDTV. A green spot in upper left corner of screen has developed recently. There are about 6500 hours on the lamp. Posted online, I've seen numerous possibilities as to what it could be, from the need to degauss, to a dirty green LCD filter, or a faulty optical engine. Does anyone have a clear cut and promising solution to this problem?

Thanks

degauss - NO! this tv is an lcd and magnetic fields are not a problem. Does the "Spot" have defined sharp edges or are the edges blurry? Is the "Spot" stationary or does it move or jiggle ?Can video be seen behind the “Spot” ?

The edges are blurry, it is

The edges are blurry, it is not a well defined area, but in the same location all the time.  It does not move. The color seems to block out that area of video. When the TV is on but no video signal being applied to it, the spot does not appear. It has the same appearance as a CRT would if there was a need to degauss.

Sharp edges would infer that

Sharp edges would infer that a group of pixels on the lcd panel have failed on the green, blurry infers either dust is on the red and blue so only green is showing, it also infers that the problem is related to a video issue more than a light engine digital issue. But dust usually allows video to come through behind it although it will look bad. also with no signal being applied the pattern goes away, this does not point to the light engine because it normally will stay with or without video. I am leaning toward a video issue, try this to help narrow it down.check your other inputs, tuner, standard video in, make sure you test these other formats other than just a hi-def input. use the analog standard inputs and see if the problem is on these as well. or visa versa, if you are only using the analog input, check the digital inputs for the same problem.

Hi , it seems you are experimenting a light engine problem. Here's how your tv works:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLLHnQ4y-wo Basically there's 3 LCD chips that create the colors and image by blending together. When these chips start to melt you will get those blue spots, pixilation even vertical lines. You will need to replace the light engine. Have a blessed one!
