My 56" rear projection Proscan TV model PS56670 is having a problem. The picture just starting going out of fucus and looking like a "fisheye" or warped view. This happens after the it has warmed up. I can shut it off, and this will fix it but only for a short time. I have also disconnected the power to reset it, but still did not fix it. It was mfg in 97 and I have never had a problem with it until now. After doing some reading it seems like this might be a convergence problem, but I am not sure. Had a tv tech look at it, and he was sure it was a convergence problem when he saw the screen. After checking it out he now thinks it is a pincussion problem. I removed the rear cover and the tv will worked perfectly for over 6 hrs. I did notice some burnt soot on the inside of the cover by the power input. The tech said he thought he could fix it for 200-250, but wasn't sure what the exact problem was. It is obviously a thermal issue. Probably on the power side. The tv runs fine with the rear cover off, but will screw up within 20 min with cover on. I appreciate anyone's help.
Would like to know if this is worth fixing. Since it is 10 yrs old. Not sure what the lifespan is on one of these sets. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
