B&W Checkered pattern on Mitsubishi WD-52725
I was very intrigued and impressed by this site after reading a few articles and forums. There were several entries written by Mr. Larry Dillon that were very informative and helpful. I was hoping Larry of some of the other fine folks here may be able to provide some insight or set me on a better path to repair my Tele. The was a reference to a Dm board that effects the “Green light” issues which my TV exhibits as well only with slightly different and perplexing complications.
For nearly a year the picture was fine until one day after turning the power off and then back on after about two hours the screen displayed a black and white checkered pattern across the entire screen. The store from which I purchased the TV referred me to a service center that sent a tech to examine the problem and inspected the interior parts.
He reported a damaged board (not sure if it was a motherboard or a graphics card) however, he did not record the item in question because only paid the service fee and declined the repair charge/estimate of $800.00+. He stated the part is roughly $400.00 - $450.00+ new. I felt I should check around before shelling out that kind of cash only to have him come back later for something else. *The audio, and other features appear to function.
I appreciate any assistance, I'd hat to discard a new TV or waste $800 if it will break again?

This is really a hard call on this set without doing several checks or by swapping out the boards. Your problem could be the light engine, the FMT AKA the Formatter board, the DM board, or perhaps the signal board. I do know that ptscorp.com does repair most Mitsubishi Chassis assemblies for a flat rate of around 300 bucks or so. Go to ptscorp.com, get the toll free telephone number and call them with your model number and see what they will charge you. If they find nothing wrong with your complete chassis, they do have a small bench charge to test out the chassis. That way you can see if the light engine is the problem. Good Luck with this repair.
Thanks, this actually helps a great deal. Another tech gave this advice during my search:
This is what it sounds like a bad board. Check to see if you have Composite Video, Do you have a DVD player? If you do then look in back and see if you can hook up the component input(Y Pr Pb) to your set with component video cables. If you have color there then yes. The board is a 934C118001 part #. Check on it's price. Hope this helps
I'll contact the ptscorp folks and see if they can help; I was unable to locate the part on-line. This information puts me in a better spot then last year. Atleast I have better options to consider, prospects to investigate and lower cost to dish out.
Thanks,
