Hitachi 57SWB

Hi, my Hitachi 57in rear projection TV has its convergance out of line especially at the top and bottom of the screen.  It is also a little blurry, and jitters every few seconds.  I had a repair man come out and he replaced the convergance, but it did not change anything.  Picture still the same.  What else could be causing this problem.  It seems that after an hour or so, the guns are a little better.

Thanks

Ok i don't understand, a

Ok i don't understand, a repairman came out and changed the ic's and it did not fix the problem? i guess i would have to ask the question, Did he check the resistors? because that would have fixed most tv's with this problem, also did he attempt to re-converge the tv after the repair?

if you are looking for a simple answer you are not going to get it. Your answer will require you to investigate the situation.  Start with the questions i posed above. we will see how it goe's from there.

I understand.  The repairman

I understand.  The repairman was sure it was the ic, after he replaced it and there was no change, he looked for bad resisters with a visual check.  He said that they would have to take the set to the shop to isolate the problem.  this set is very heavy.  I am most likely going to call someone else, but I just want to be sure they know what they are talking about.  he did not try to converge the tv after, since the picture was still flickering.  This repairman had no diagnostic tools with him.  Shouldn't he be able to isolate the problem in my house and not need to take it out?

In-home repair is very

In-home repair is very limited. It is limited to things that the shop guys have seen before and board level replacement. In-depth component level troubleshooting is impossible in the home. he doesn't have the  level of equipment needed. The field tech is also saddled with the fact he has a limited amount of time that he can spend on the tv before he is forced to move on, and sending the tv into the shop.  Field techs can have as many as 8 calls a day. So spending more than 45 minutes to an hour is tough for the field guy. The shop guy has more resources and if he needs to spend a few hours on a set his schedule is more open to it. The other tv waiting on him can wait a little longer. Repair shops don't like to talk about this stuff but these are the real facts about repair. The less experienced techs are usually the ones in the field, because the more experienced techs are needed to troubleshoot the real dogs.   (my comments are more of a larger shop, really small shops usually send the same guy out in the field and on the bench because of the lack of resources)
