My RCA tv decided to popup the guideplus menu the other day while watching a dvd from an external player. I tried to clear the guide menu but it would pop up again. Then using the right arrow key it would start flashing the various setup menus and muted the sound. I already have been through the replacement of the flyback and HOT to repair another problem. Any ideas?
Yes, this sounds like it possibly could be the Windex effect. If you clean the screen with a cleaner that you spray on the screen, some of the cleaner can creep down inside the tv onto the button pad below the crt. causing the button pad to malfunction. it should be easy to spot. you will need to clean the button board and remove all green or white residue from the board. Re-solder any solder connections that have corroded. in some cases you will need to replace the affected buttons, but if you never use the buttons in front of the tv, just remove the switches.
If this is your problem, remember to spray the cloth you are using to clean the screen, not the screen it’s self.
