my sony kdlv40xbr1 just went black no picture no sound and the standby light blinks 6 times. My authorized sony repair tech said it was a power supply ($340) plus labor and he diagnosed it over the phone!! should i order the part and trust his diagnosis??? This tv is not even two years old! HELP!!!
He's probably going by the error code in the Sony service manual which is about all anyone can do around here since we don't have the unit in front of us to troubleshoot.
I have seen "D" board and "A" board cause that problem. 6 blink i believe is vertical shutdown. Can't remember for sure. Usually when a diagnosis is rendered like this, it is a ballpark estimate. We only give out estimates like this if the customer pressures us for an estimate before we can look at it. Only after a proper diagnosis will the truth come out. Usually this kind of estimate is a high estimate because it is easier to tell the customer that the cost was less than originally quoted.
Simply put, i would not trust this diagnostic.
