Sony Wega FS-120 32" TV

I am on my third sony wega fs120 32" tv,the first one had purple patches running down each side. The second one had purple down the right side and green up on th left corner. The third one I still have and it has  purple on both sides and blue. in the bottom left corner. I have moved all external speakers away from the set. When the tecnition looked at th second one, he checked the yoke, removed one of the internal speakers, degaussed the tube, and movet the tv to various spots.

He thinks there is something in the house causing this problem, but we have had a 27" curved tube running fine in the same position and setup.

app. 5 years ago I had the same problem with 2 27" flat screen sony before having to go to the 27" curved tube.

App. 2 years ago i had the same problem with 2 24" flat screen somy before opting for  24"flat screen Toshiba, that worked great.

Am I the only one noticing this problem?

I have seen this kind of

I have seen this kind of problem before, and it is a magnetic field somewhere in your house. The bigger the crt, the more sensitive it is to electro-magnetism. i have had problems with 40" tv's that just by turning them around pointing another direction will cause purity problems.  I will write more about this later no time now.

Ok, we have had the same

Ok, we have had the same trouble with a television in a school. The purity would slowly change as the day went on. If the tv was in our shop it played fine. So we knew it was an environmental problem. I went out to the school and started to investigate. and found that the metal shop was one floor below. They had big metal presses with huge electric motors. But those presses did not run all the time. but the power for the presses ran right down the outside of the wall just opposite to where the tv was hung. The teacher was not happy when we told her we needed to move the tv. But we did, and the problem went away. Another instance that i had experienced was not related to a television, but i know that high tension power lines, the ones on the huge metal towers. Have a dedicated clearance, because not all the electricity resides in the copper lines. Some of the actual power is transmitted as electromagnetism surrounding the wire. This was made clearly evident to me one day.  I was in a field about 30 feet from the base of one of those towers.  A farmers fence was running along the length of the tower and when i approached it an eerie sound could be heard coming from the power lines above, but that was not all. I also heard a second noise that was at a different pitch and it was not coming from the power wire. After some investigation i determined it was the fence it's self resonating ageist the power line. I was shocked at it  being so far away that that fence would be humming. I found a small piece of broken fence wire and placed it close to the fence that was vibrating. I was trying to get that piece of wire to resonate ageist the fence. I was successful, but the capacitance of the wire was overtaking the inductiveness of the wire.  I could feel a small tingle of voltage coming off the wire. I was amazed at the amount of power that surged through those lines.  I then began to  worry about myself  being hit with such high magnetic waves I did not know how it could affect my body.  I decided to vacate the area.  It was a lesson, that was for sure. The moral of this antidote is; that if you have power lines passing close by i would say even 100-150 feet of your house this could be a source for your purity problems.

I have found that the curved tubes are more resistant to electromagnetic influences than the true flat tubes. If you want to get this problem to go away, make your next tv an lcd or plasma, or maybe a lcd projection, although i am ageist the projections because of inherent dust problems. None of these are affected by electromagnetism.

I can't say for sure but the Toshiba may not have been a true flat screen, it could be curved on the inside and they will just make the outside glass flat to make it look like a flat screen. Some cheaper flat screens are really just a curved tube with more glass to make it flat.

We have had the same color

We have had the same color distortion problems with two Sony Vegas. One has just started. We have recently connected lots of christmas lights and stuff - all fairly close to the tv. Local technicians had brought a homemade electromagnetic device years ago whdn we lived in an older home that worked temporarily.

If I move speakers, extraneous electrical drains, etc, will the purple distortion go away? Does anyone kow how to configure this device that cancels this effect? We are out of warranty period.

Should I avoid Sonys in the future or is this evident in other brands as well?

Un fortunately, this purity

Un fortunately, this purity problem has pleaged sony, usually on the 36" and 40" televisions.  That electromagnetic device, is called a degaussing coil, they are very effective, but like you have noticed the problem may re-occur. What we have done in the past is to put correction magnets on the back of the crt to help with this problem, it seems to be a more perminate solution.  This has worked for us. In the future we will not have crt type of televisions, so this problem will go away.

Out of curiosity, is your

Out of curiosity, is your Sony KV-32FS120 still working? Mine died after 4 years of use, and after looking on the internet, it seems this is a record for longevity. You may get the famous 9 blinks.
