Panasonic plasma TV
Hi guys,

Watch out to buy panasonic plasma TV! If you still really want to take a risk, then buy the longest extended warranty.

My TV(TH42PX500U),which I have bought Nov. 2005, has gone black recently. The power red light blinks 7 times and pause and repeats to blink 7 times... I called customer center and they told it needs SC,SU and SD cards replaced and it will cost about couple of hundreds dollar. If they replace all
those 3cards, it will cost up to 1000 dollars!
Not to mention why the TV so fast crashed, why the fixing costs so high?
Further, how can I trust this will not occur in future, say 2 years later
after fixing, and pay extra amount to fix it again?
I googled and found some people with the same problems even with latest model.

You will find that every

You will find that every piece of electronic equipment made has had failures early, and late in their life cycle. I have seen tv's that were only a week old fail , and that same model work for 15 years. This is nothing new. but the part that is new is that most flat panel televisions can't be repaired to the component level like the older televisions were. that is why the cost is so high. Instead of replacing a 2 dollar part they replace the whole board.  Then send the boards back to the factory where they find the 2 dollar part that went bad and send them back out as re-furbished boards. Troubleshooting these boards to component level can be quite time consuming, and if the tech was to try to do a component level directly you could be waiting a long time for the tv to get fixed. When we (as techs) go to the training classes it will only cover the general functions of the board.  The only thing  we have to is to find the board that the problem is on to pass the session. They don’t expect us to go any farther than that. You have had a bad experience with this model, but that experience does not tell you how well that model has preformed overall. Every television ever made has had what i call and most techs call "common problems" these issues are the one we see over and over again for a particular chassis, no manufacturer or model is immune to this. It is quite possible you can see several people having the same problem as yours.
