Hitachi CU4601K prob

I have a hitachi cu4601k that my father gave to me and it is not working properly my friend was over and pressed a button to perform some kind of test and he said the reason that it wasn't working properly was because the lines(red, green, blue) in the test would not align.  Is he right and if so how do I get this fixed and can anyone tell me a kind of ballpark figure for this thanks
