Time Warner Cable connections

Hope someone in NY can help me.  I currently have Time Warner cable and have so for many years.  I recently purchased a small sharp lcd tv for a small room.  We conected all cable wires to the new tv from the old one in the living room ...however, I cannot recieve the channels I get in the livingroom ...with the cable box.....(just basic cable).  Spoke to time warner and was told I need to purchase another box...for the smaller room.... and even though all wires/cables are connected I would still have to pay an installation fee.  I do know that there is a way that I can keep the cable box...power on....to a specific channel...I think 3 and I should be able to view the exact channel on the smaller tv in the other room....but, of course I dont know how to do it..... If anyone has any idea what I am trying to explain...please help me.

I dont even need to watch a different channel...on the other tv,...just the same one would suffice...

Thanks so much

Anna

Hi annaobc,

Hi annaobc,

Your cable box in the living room should have an RF output that sends signals on channel 3 or 4. If this jack is currently in use on your living room TV, either split the RF output using a standard 2-way splitter, or move the living room TV to the AV jacks (yellow, red, and white) connections which will free up the RF jack.

Run an RF cable to the LCD TV in the other room and connect it to your set. Your cable box picture will appear on channel 3 or 4.

The problem with this setup is control. Without some kind of IR repeater device, you won't be able to control the cable box from the other room. Your local major electronics store may have a solution for you. Ask the sales clerk at Radio Shack for a wireless IR repeater system. If you find someone knowledgable, he/she will know what you're looking for. If not, you can buy this one from Amazon. Should do the trick: http://www.amazon.com/D940-Remote-Con...
