I have a sony kp-51ws510, it has 5 blinks, and on it has blue bleeding onto black backgrounds. I adjusted the voltage on the blue(lower left screw) and the blueing went away, but the picture doesn't look as good as it used to. I replaced the IC's almost 2 years ago, I've read that the flyback transformer or the akb circuit may be bad, should I try and replace them or let it ride. Any help would be greaty appreciated. Thany you

Larry, I don't know how long

Larry, I don't know how long you monitor the various threads, but I would love a copy of the repair manual for a KP51WS510 sent to [email protected]. I had an obvious convergence problem on this set, replaced the convergence chips with the help of tvrepairkits.com, Mr. Ed, but I continue to have a 6 blink problem, and the set doesn't power up. He and I are trying to get to the bottom of it, and the manual would be a big help. I have a fair amount of experience in electronics (all DIY)and high voltage, so I am not completely in the dark.
Thanks!

OOPS!! My bad...I just found the download for the very manual I was asking for. What can I say...I'm a newbie! thanks anyway, and the site looks amazing!

6 blink shutdown is a power

6 blink shutdown is a power supply problem for my techs on the road i built a kit to fix all knowen 6 and 7 blink error codes. On the d board look for the white resistors .1 ohm to the left middle of the board. check these to make sure they are good, next to them you will see two mz3001? ic's (ic number my not be accurate can't remember number) for a 6 blink it will be the one furtherst back in the set. for a 7 in is the one in toward the front.

I have 1 MCZ3001DB chip. It is on the board standing against the left wall (facing the back of the set) which I think is the D board. It is toward the back of the board (front of set). But it is the only chip. I can't find any white resistors in the middle of either board. There is a white something large square, ceramic, but the rating stamped on it is MUCH higher than .1 ohms. If you were in my shoes would you just replace the MCZ chip and see what happens?
Thanks!

Well, Larry, I have found the

Well, Larry, I have found the white .1 ohm resistor, and it is very near the MCZ chip. Unfortunately, I once again forgot to bring my meter, so I will have to check tomorrow. I just wanted to let you know I had found the resistor and will check it shortly.

The white resistor has a

The white resistor has a resistance of approximately .1 ohms. Is there a procedure for disconnecting various devices and then seeing if the TV will power up without it?
Thanks!

Larry, where would you

Larry, where would you suggest I go from here? I am tempted to replace the MCZ chip, and possibly some of the other resistors for good measure and see what happens, but I was hoping for some guidance first.
Thanks,
David

LARRY is no longer with us

Wow! I am so sorry for anyone that has known him...he sounded like the best. I feel somewhat mean wanting to continue the thread under the circumstances, but I really need to. I guess the person I was actually talking to was zapdbf, so could you continue to help, please? Thanks!

Sorry to hear about Larry, he

Sorry to hear about Larry, he was a good fellow, i did not know him in personally but i had some e-mail conversations with him. I appreciated his humbleness and he was never boastful or condescending to others which is a great quality to have. I stop by once in a while and still get some of the posting alerts. Toyman: what guidance are you looking for?

Just replace the ic.

No replacing other resistors is not necessary. Although there are a couple of capacitors that can give you trouble, but usually they will produce intermittent failures and not a constant failure.

On Dec 18 I posted that I was having a 6 blink problem. You responded,

To which I responded I had found the one MCZ chip that I had, and that the .1 ohm resistor has .1 ohms of resistance. So the questions is do you think I ought to just go ahead and replace the MCZ chip, or try something else? I am also working with tvrepairkits.com, but it seems to take a while to get a resonse from them.

zapdbf, in looking for a MCZ

zapdbf, in looking for a MCZ chip, I have run across several that have the socket that is soldered in, and then the IC just plugs in. Is this advisable? Seems like a convenient way to hedge your bets agains future failures of the same chip. What do you think?

Thanks!

zapdbf
i don't go to that extreme, i

i don't go to that extreme, i just replace the ic. But i also have a hakko808 desoldering tool that makes life very easy when it comes to replacing parts. If you are using wick to remove the solder i can see your concern, it is up to you i don't think it matters, except that i know that these dips sockets can give you trouble after a while. Personally no i would not use them.

That's what I needed to know,

That's what I needed to know, thanks. I don't remember the make, but I also bought a desoldering tool for this project, and it really does make it easier!

Toyman
OK, zapdbf, I have replaced

OK, zapdbf, I have replaced the MCZ ic with the same results...6 blink code. I checked the .1 ohm resistor again, and it still checks good. Since I downloaded the repair manual, I am going to go through the schematic for that board and see if I see anything abviously amiss. Right now the two 12V relays click on, then right off and I get the 6 blink pattern. If I disconnect all the inputs from the power supply board except the power supply and the power button, can I then try to power it on? If the relays come on and stay engaged, will that mean that the problem is on a different board? And can I then continue to add loads until the failure occurs again?
Thanks!

zapdbf
the failed chip could be

the failed chip could be either of the two on the board, usaly 6 is for the main power but it could also be for the flyback ic, take the ic you took out and put it into the other ic's position.

Toyman
Unfortunately, my model has

Unfortunately, my model has only the one ic. I have been all over both boards and there is not another to be found. Unless you have an idea, I'll try and trace the board and get back with you. It may be a week or so....
thanks.

Wondering if I could bother

Wondering if I could bother any of you guys to email that manual for the KP-51WS510 to [email protected]
Really appreciate it.
I've got one of these TV's and really haven't been using it for the last 4 yrs or so, because of the green crt being bad. Picture on mine looks good in the center of screen, but get some distortion on both sides of the screen. When green tube is covered, I've got a great picture (although there's zero green...)
Thanks

Post a picture it maybe the convergence chips. You can find the manual in the service manual section.

You just missed it, man. My computer crashed just a week or so ago, and I lost the manual I had. I can't remember now where I got it from, but it may have been from Sony.com. Have you tried there?
