I have been researching my Sony tv (kp-51ws510) for repair info and found this site. I have the convergence issue on the set. The set is under a repair warranty with best buy and I have been waiting 53 days to get the set fixed. The service Tech has been out twice so far and now he is waiting on 2 boards to come in at the end of the month. His first repair he replaced a transistor, 2 weeks later the I.C.(s). and now we are waiting on the circuit boards.
As you can tell it gets very frustrating working with some elses time table at times. I wanted to get more familiar with the set as most likely the repair will be left to me after the warranty expires. I am not sure if its worth while on this set in the future but would definitely like to give it a try.
Could someone send me the service manual at [email protected] (have pando). I would appreciate it and thanks to all who have posted the valuable information on this site.
thanks,

Best buy has some good techs so I really do not know why this should be taking so long? Why don't you call the repair manager and see if they can repair it, or are they going to replace the TV set? The extended warranty should have the clause that they will repair or replace at their discretion the TV set. I agree, waiting almost two months is a bit long. I have sent you the service manual but you really should not mess with the TV set as that would void the warranty. Good Luck, and let us know how you made out with this repair.
I have been undergoing similar problems with Bestbuy trying to get my Sony kp-51 repaired. On Oct 18, 2007, the tech ordered power triple pack and d-boards. After 6 weeks, after several angry calls and e-mails to Bestbuy cust service, I finally get a call from Bestbuy authorizing an exchange of the television of my choice, full credit of my original purchase price of my 4 year old bigscreen. Part of me is very satisfied, but the other is still angry that I had to be without my Sony for this dang long. And of course I am going to wait some more in order to get the best deal at Bestbuy. But I am just going to purchase my warranty through Sony next time. Costs much less than through BestBuy.
Part of the problem with extended warranties, is that they often bump up against the "limit" of parts availability. Manufacturers are required by law to have parts available for 5 years from the last "sales" date. As the equipment gets older, the quantity of replacement parts starts to go down. This may contribute to the delay in the repair. If the problem is parts availability, usually that is communicated to the end user. There is also the fact that any repairs MUST be approved by the warranty company. Again, as the equipment ages, the amount spent by the warranty company will tend to decrease. If thay determine that the repair cost is too high, they will usually settle for a lesser amount. In your case, 6 weeks seems a bit long without any description for the delay. I know that in my shop, I had cases where the parts were on country backorder which resulted in extended delays.
From the servicer's perspective, calls by us to the manufacturer are basically ignored as the complaints are heard by us rather than theh manufacturer. You guys deal with us directly right? In one specific case, we had 50 units waiting for parts that were on backorder. Customers were calling us constantly complaining of the wait. There was nothing we could do except to direct them to calling hte manufacturer directly. That usually resulted in the unit being replaced. If you continue to get nowhere, try calling Sony directly to see if parts are even available. Also, read the extended warranty documents carefully. There are often clauses buried in the contract that allow the companies to just pay off the warranty for a small amount of $$ rather than repair the unit.

What Dan says is absolutely true. The repair shop are the ones who hear the complaints. Read one of our members blog on this subject. You may find it interesting. http://www.techlore.com/blog/entry/19539/A-Warranty-Is-Not-Insurance/
Best Buy finally offered me a replacement voucher for the purchase price of my original tv. I must say the manager was very helpful as he gave me an extra $100 credit and threw in the service plan at no charge.
I'm relieved that it worked out, and thanks for the info that I have received from this site...
Well that is a sweet deal. It does pay to keep after them. Good Luck with the new set.
can u sent me the service manual please thank you
