Help-is my TV dead?

I have a 55" Magnavox rear projection TV.  It's only around 2 years old.  A few weeks ago, I was watching TV and it just shut off.  I would turn it on and it would stay on for a while but then it would shut off again.  Right before it would go off, the screen would go black and the sound would still be on.  Once it does shut off, the power button also blinks two times every couple seconds.  Now, I can't even get it to stay on for a few minutes.  I turn it on and the screen shows the TV station and channel flickering and then immediately shuts back off.  Does anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong?  I called a repair shop, but they said they weren't sure and would charge me $100 just to come out to my house (did not include any costs for repairs.)  I really don't want to get rid of it, but I'm not sure what to do.  I'd appreciate any ideas you may have.

Sincerely,

Becky

Chech for the bad connection

Chech for the bad connection on  the Flyback transformer and to the vertical circuit. If thius don't correct the problem chech for the bad  capacitor in the vertical power supply.

If this don't correct the problem find the schematic diagram of your TV and we will try to fix together.

I appreciate the help, but I am not familiar with any of these parts.  I wouldn't even know where to begin to look.

Becbec, if you have no solid

Becbec, if you have no solid state repair experience, or do not know how to trouble shoot using a schematic diagram and a meter to trace the circuit flow, you really should play it safe and call in a trained tech to assist you in this repair. These types of TV sets are not for the novice or handy person to even attempt to repair. This is not the place to be experimenting around with or inside of. Play it safe and call a pro. Good Luck
