Intermittently my tv picture will go blank except for a vertical line in the middle of the screen. Upon banging the side of the tv the whole picture comes back. Any suggestions as to what part needs to be replaced?

Nothing needs to be replaced yet. The longer you wait though, the more it will cost you to have repaired. There is simply a bad solder or plug connection inside the TV set on the printed circuit board. Most likely on the vertical output IC itself. If you have soldering experience on printed circuit boards and know about the high voltage dangers inside of a TV set, this is a relatively easy repair. If you do not have this TV repair knowledge, play it safe and have a pro assist you in this repair. Good Luck
