If the convergence board is no longer available for this model, is it possible to just change the IC's? There does not appear to be any resistors, or any other components that are burnt or cracked (visual inspection).

Yes, there very well could be. This is where replacing the board would be idea if you have no electronic part testing equipment or experience. You really should try calling up ptscorp and see if they can rebuild the board for you. Simple go to ptscorp.com and get the toll free telephone number and give them the board number I gave you or the model number. If not, you will need to call in a tech to assist you in this repair I'm afraid, because a TV set is not the place to be experimenting around inside of. Good Luck
