So I recently replaced the lamp in my Akai PT46DL10 46" DLP set. What happens is I turn on the TV, after about 25 sec. of the power light flashing green the lamp turns on and I get a picture, the power light is then a steady green. The set operates fine for about another 25 sec, and then the lamp turns off, but I still get audio. The audio continues for another 25 sec or so and then it turns off, and the red lamp light and the green power light are both lit up solid. Also sometimes I will turn it on and the power light will just flash and then the audio will come on but still no lamp. I tried replacing the bulb but I still get the same problem.
You have a ballast power supply problem. It is the ballast circuit, or possibly a problem with the power from the power supply going bad. You will need to contact the manufacturer and find out if they have a ballast circuit for this set. Good Luck, please keep us informed of the progress of the repair of this set.
The ballast is available. It costs about $75. I checked and the ballast is receiving the 380V from the main power supply. There is also a 5 pin connector that goes to the DMD/processing board. I am guessing these wires tell the lamp to turn on and off. Is there any way to tell if the processor is telling the lamp to turn off prematurely? If that is the case then I don't think a new ballast would help me.
I am pretty sure that the ballast is bad, but the only way would be for you to get the service manual and see what is on that plug.
Here is the service manual for my tv:

I didn't see any schematics that say what voltages are being output to the ballast to control the lamp. Maybe one of you will see something I missed?
Is it possible that there is a thermal issue that is casing the shut down? One of the fans that blows on the main power suppley was seized. however all the fans in the system are just two wires fans (no tach wire) so I am pretty sure that the processor can't tell if the fan is spinning. Also I noticed that sometimes the lamp will not come on at all. it sounds like it is trying to start, but can't then the audio comes on.
I could not download this manual, so please send it to me via e-mail. if it is too large to send that way go to pando.com and get the free software so you can send files up to 1 gig. In the meantime, did you mention before about the seized fan? That of course could be an issue, replace the fan. there is a thermal issue here. send the manual to [email protected]
thank you for posting this link. something has just gone on my set and i can't seem to find my manual anywhere. This should help.
I don't suppose you know where to get the computer files they mention for doing diagnostics?
Do you by any chance have the model or place where I can find the power supply module for this TV?
I have the same problem. I have been looking around for some information regarding this problem and Im pretty sure is the power supply, although I cannot find it anywhere. Maybe we can pool our resources and find it.
Thanks.

Look up "factory reset" to reset the timer. I just changed my lamp for the 2nd time in 8 years and it appears the timer, showing 13000+ hours prevented proper operation, ( same symptoms as you all mentioned). Seems to be ok now since factory reset. My Akai was to: with power off, press mute-1-8-2-power. This was the trick. Try the simple things 1st B4 you go and mess with the power supply.
